Forex trading is legal in Greenland, which operates under the monetary and foreign exchange policy framework of the Kingdom of Denmark. Denmark, the Faroe Islands, and Greenland employ the same currency, the Danish krone, with Danmarks Nationalbank responsible for this currency and monetary policy (2). In respect of the Unity of the Realm and special provisions in the Danish Constitution, responsibility for exchange rate and monetary policy cannot be transferred to Greenland's Self-Government authorities and remains with the central authorities of Denmark (1).
The Self-Government Act of 2009 grants Greenland authority over many areas including financial regulation and supervision, but foreign exchange and monetary policy remain under Danish control. The Danish Government and the Folketing have constitutional authority to enter into obligations under international law and responsibility for conducting foreign policy, including matters affecting currency and exchange rates (1). Greenland has signed a Foreign Accounts Tax Compliance Act agreement with the United States and maintains double taxation agreements with Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Iceland, and Norway (2).
"In respect of the Unity of the Realm and special provisions in the Danish Constitution, responsibility for the following fields may not be transferred: the Constitution; nationality; the Supreme Court; foreign, defence and security policy as well as exchange rate and monetary policy."
Foreign companies can establish commercial enterprises in Greenland through subsidiaries, registered affiliates, representative offices, or taxable entities, with proper registration required from the Greenlandic Tax Authorities. The corporate income tax rate is 30 percent with an additional surcharge bringing the total to 31.8 percent, though companies operating under the Mineral Resources Act may apply for exemptions (2). Greenland residents and businesses can engage in forex trading through Danish-regulated brokers, benefiting from the oversight of Danmarks Nationalbank and the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority (1).
